CO-HOUSING

PROJECT OUTLINE

This project was designed as a residential high-rise co-housing complex. It consists of 72 units that all have their individual terraces, shared kitchens and living spaces. It is potential high-end college residence for USC. Some amenities include an open-air theater, recreational pool, cafe and an art gallery integrated into the large park area. Every unit on the same floor is unique due to the organic form, which provides a variety in floor plans that may appeal to different potential customers.

In order to take an introverted approach, the grid form breaks down into organic forms in the courtyard area. This creates a “pocket effect” by leading the user to a secluded alcove that does not feel like the part of the grid. The design was inspired by forms of canyons. The layering of each floor follows a flow that is expressed in both section and plan, replicating a canyons complex surfaces. The entrance slopes inwards in order to achieve the cave entrance feeling.
